How to care after down pillow properly

Down pillow is soft and adjustable and it is due to this reason that a lot of people prefer to sleep on them. These offer softness along with the level of firmness needed by the body to prevent aches and pains. Taking proper care of these pillows is essential, if you need quality and comfortable sleep. Much like your bed sheets, your pillows can easily get dirty and damaged. The following tips will assist you in caring after them in a proper manner.

Clean them regularly
It is advised that you clean the pillows after every two weeks, even if not weekly. You can use soft detergents for the cleaning purpose, and use your washing machine to tidy up your pillow. It is also important to clean up the pillow covers at the same time, considering the fact that they absorb dust particles and dirt quite easily. Pillows tend to absorb dirt from these cases, which is exactly the reason why you need to keep them completely clean.
Dry them well
Remember to dry your down pillow well enough after getting them washed. Keep in mind that moist pillows are loved by fleas and other insects to lay eggs on. Naturally, you should make sure that the pillows are completely dry after you wash them. Even after putting them in a dryer you have to air-dry the pillows and remove the last traces of moisture from them.
Keep them in the sun
It is also a good idea to keep your pillows for some time in the sun, possibly in the front or back yard. Do not leave them on the ground. Use a chair or stool to keep them on. Sun-drying your pillows can help prevent the growth of microbial organisms within them, as heat is not conducive to their breeding. Remember to dust your pillows after keeping them in the sun.
Fluff your pillows every day
Sleeping on down pillow for long hours can make them lose shape after sometime. This happens due to the pressure of the head on them, which causes them to be deformed. Not fluffing them well can make them lose their shape completely. Every morning once you get up from sleep, remember to fluff your pillows from every side. This will help them to retain their original shape. Fluffing will also help remove all traces of dead skin cells that you shed each night.
